Sustainable landscape design, installation, and lighting.

Our goal is to develop residential yards and public spaces into robust and sustainable habitats.

Services

Here at Heyvern Landscapes we serve Long Beach and the surrounding areas as all-inclusive landscaping contractor specializing in unique, drought tolerant designs. Our projects feature dramatic natural arrangements, beautiful lighting, and robust diversity. Whether it’s complete design, construction, demolition and cleanup, consultation, or landscape lighting - we do it all.

Landscape Design

Do you have a yard that needs a new vision? Perhaps you have a water-sucking lawn and you’d like to go full native and drought-tolerant. Perfect. We will consult with you to discuss and design everything from aesthetics, costs, timeline, maintenance, and if you're lucky we’ll get into microenvironments, mycorrhiza, and some biodynamic agriculture.

Consultation

You have questions and we have answers. Perhaps you’re remodeling your home and don’t want to remodel your yard twice. Or you want to take advantage of local landscaping rebates. Or you’re a hands on kind of person that just needs a backboard for all your hopes, dreams, and landscaping questions. No matter the scale, we can help.

Installation

Do you already have a vision and a plan for your yard? Fantastic. We can bring that dream to life. Whether we’ve done the design in-house, or your brother-in-laws-next door neighbor’s-ex-turned landscape designer gifted it to you at a white elephant, we’ve got you covered. Front yards, back yards, sensory gardens, native flower beds, rock rivers, xeriscape (our favorite!), hardscapes, outdoor showers, you name it - we do it.

Landscape & Environmental Lighting

Lighting changes everything. But it takes balance to get just right. We specialize in timeless and intentional lighting that will bring warmth, awe, and safety to your yard - all the while considering the environment around you.

Overgrowth / Cleanup

Have you lost touch with your landscaping? Are things getting out of control? Does your yard need a spa day? We can help. Maybe you just need to clear some space. Or you are getting ready for a big make-over. Regardless the scale, we do it all.

REBATES & Incentives

Many cities and counties offer rebate for removing your lawn and installing a drought tolerant yard. We can navigate the process for you to help put money back in your pocket. Currently, Long Beach city is offering homeowners $3/sq. ft in both your front and back yards, plus a $1500 design reimbursement - that’s up to $16,500!

SUSTAINABILITY

We believe we should leave it better than we found it. Sustainability in our business and the landscapes we design and install is very important to us. With more and more of us moving into cities, our yards are becoming some of the last green spaces available; so it’s important to foster and cherish that space. Here are some of the principles we try to adhere to whenever possible:

NATIVE PLANTS

Choosing native plants is the easiest, cheapest, and most sustainable choice a customer can make. These are plants that thrive in the dry, Mediterranean climate of Southern California, making them lower maintenance, with a lower watering footprint, while also providing food and shelter for our local biome.

REWILDING

As more and more people move into cities, it’s important to give intentional space for nature to thrive - not just around, but in. Turning boring lawns into a thriving nature metropolis is a great way to do your part to help bring balance to the urban sprawl.

HABITAT RESTORATION

Rapid and large-scale changes to our lands and waters mean wildlife are losing the habitats they once knew. Every habitat garden is a step toward replenishing resources for wildlife such as bees, butterflies, birds, and amphibians—both locally and along migratory corridors.

BIODIVERSITY

Think of it as adding culture to your nature. No matter how big or small your space is, biodiversity brings all the birds to the yard. It’s surprisingly easy but starts with selecting a great variety of (native!) plants to build your landscapes with. And then you just stay out of the way. If you build it they will come!

LOW MAINTENANCE

You shouldn’t need to work for your yard. By choosing a drought tolerant, biodiverse landscape the magic is that it does most of the heavy lifting on it’s own, giving you more time to just enjoy it - naturally!

About

Heyvern Landscapes was started by Vern Moen - a documentary filmmaker from Long Beach, CA - who took advantage of the cities program (Lawn to Garden) that paid residents to convert their thirsty lawns into drought tolerant yards. From there, he has gone on to convert plenty of other yards into native habitats as well as community gardens and commercial projects in and around Long Beach.
